After my new Navien combi boiler developed a whistling noise after just 2 years of use, I contacted Techno Gas based on their positive Google reviews. Diakyo and Mike diagnosed improper installation and missing components. After the problems gradually worsened over the following six months, I decided to have Techno Gas redesign the piping and reinstall the boiler properly. They scheduled the work quickly. Mark and Jian completed the installation in one day, with Diakyo providing on-site guidance. The result was excellent: neat, well-organized piping, smooth boiler operation, and the whistling noise completely gone! Techno Gas is highly experienced with Navien systems, has the necessary licences and insurance, and offers a 5-year parts warranty and 3-year labour warranty. I am extremely satisfied and highly recommend Techno Gas. I will definitely use them for our annual boiler maintenance! Thank you, Diakyo, Mike, Mark, and Jian for a job well done!Posted on Google![]()

When the cold weather finally arrived in Burnaby, BC this year, my parents turned on their above-ground heating, and of course, it did not come on. We managed to get the pilot light lit, but the furnace would not come on. We first tried the usual AI route (lol) but eventually ended up Googling and finding these guys: Techno Gas Heating & Cooling Services Ltd. Understandably, many companies were busy with their clients and their furnaces that needed attention during this first cold night of the season, but Techno Gas Heating were willing to come late at night (around 8:00pm, I believe) to address our problem. They first diagnosed it as a HONEYWELL VR8300A4508 STANDING PILOT FURNACE GAS VALVE issue, but when replacing the valve didn’t fix it, it became a sensor issue with the heat ex-changer. Long story short: the furnace that circulated the water in the above-ground heating was old, as was the water tank (from 2015). After extensive discussion, and on Mike’s recommendation, we decided to replace both with a modern Navien NCB-240/130H high-efficiency condensing combi boiler (space heating + domestic hot water). By then, my parents were without heat for 5 days, so Techno Gas Heating came in on Thursday and after a day and a half had to entire thing replaced/installed. Competitively, I’m not sure how Techno Gas Heating stacks up in pricing against other HVAC companies (and there are many in a Google search), but I can tell you that their service was professional and they delivered as promised. In the end, I have nothing but praise for their work and would highly recommend their service to anyone in need of a good HVAC company. How often should a furnace be maintained?
Many homeowners choose to have their furnace professionally inspected and maintained once a year.
Annual maintenance can be particularly useful before the heating season begins, when you want to make sure your furnace is ready for regular use.
If your furnace is older, heavily used, or has a history of problems, more frequent inspections may be appropriate depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations and the condition of the equipment.
What are some signs my furnace needs maintenance?
Your furnace may benefit from professional maintenance if you notice changes in how it operates.
Common warning signs include:
- Uneven heating between rooms
- Reduced airflow from vents
- Strange or unusual sounds
- Frequent cycling
- Higher-than-normal energy consumption
- Difficulty maintaining your thermostat setting
- Delayed ignition or startup
- Increasingly frequent service calls
These symptoms can have different causes, so professional inspection is the best way to determine what is happening.
How much does a furnace maintenance cost?
The cost of furnace maintenance can vary depending on the furnace type, system condition, accessibility, and the work required.
Routine maintenance is generally less involved than a repair or major component replacement. For an accurate price, the furnace should be assessed based on its specific condition and maintenance requirements.
If repairs are recommended during a maintenance visit, you can review the options and associated costs before deciding how to proceed.
How long does a furnace maintenance appointment take?
The time required depends on the furnace type, condition, accessibility, and whether any issues are found. A routine maintenance appointment is typically completed during a single visit.
Is furnace maintenance necessary for a newer furnace?
Yes. Regular maintenance can help keep a newer furnace operating properly and may help identify minor issues before they develop into larger problems. Always follow the maintenance recommendations in your manufacturer’s documentation.
What does furnace maintenance include?
Furnace maintenance typically includes inspecting the furnace, checking safety controls, examining electrical connections, inspecting the blower and burners, checking airflow, and testing overall system operation.
Can furnace maintenance lower my energy bills?
A properly maintained furnace can operate more effectively than a system with dirty components or airflow problems. While maintenance cannot guarantee lower energy bills, it can help support efficient system operation.
What are the signs my furnace needs maintenance?
Common signs include unusual noises, reduced airflow, uneven heating, frequent cycling, difficulty maintaining the thermostat setting, or increasing energy consumption.
Does furnace maintenance prevent breakdowns?
Regular maintenance cannot prevent every breakdown, but inspecting and servicing the system can help identify worn or developing problems before they result in a larger failure.
Should I repair or maintain my furnace?
Maintenance is intended to keep a functioning system in good condition, while repair addresses an existing problem. If your furnace is already showing signs of a fault, a professional inspection can determine whether repair or routine maintenance is appropriate.
Can you maintain an older furnace?
Yes. Older furnaces can still benefit from professional inspection and maintenance. A technician can assess the system’s condition and explain whether continued maintenance or eventual replacement makes sense.
How long does furnace installation take?
Many straightforward furnace replacements can be completed within a day. More complex installations may take longer depending on the equipment and modifications required.
How often should a furnace be replaced?
Furnace lifespan varies depending on the equipment, installation, maintenance, and operating conditions. If an older furnace is experiencing frequent breakdowns or declining performance, it may be worth comparing replacement costs with continued repairs.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
The answer depends on the furnace’s age, condition, repair history, efficiency, and the cost of the proposed repair.
We can help you understand both options so you can make an informed decision.
Can you replace an existing furnace?
Yes. Furnace replacement is one of the most common types of residential furnace installation. The existing equipment is removed and the new system is installed and tested.
Will I be pressured into buying an expensive new system when I only need a minor repair?
No. Our solution-first policy means we always attempt to repair and optimize your existing furnace whenever technically and economically sound. If a replacement is necessary due to safety hazards (like a cracked heat exchanger) or age, we lay out all options transparently alongside available FortisBC rebates to offset costs.
How do I know if my furnace is safe to run right now?
If you notice unusual odours, soot buildup, yellow burner flames, or frequent tripping, shut the system down and contact us immediately. Our technicians perform complete safety audits, including carbon monoxide testing and flue gas checks, to keep your family safe.
What is the average lifespan of a residential gas furnace in Burnaby?
Most residential gas furnaces in the Pacific Northwest last between 15 and 20 years. Regular annual maintenance extends operational lifespan, maintains high fuel efficiency, and prevents emergency breakdowns during peak winter months.
How do I qualify for FortisBC and CleanBC heating rebates?
To qualify, work must be completed by a licensed contractor, and installed equipment must meet specific efficiency standards (such as SEER/HSPF criteria for heat pumps or qualifying smart thermostat models).
Our office administrator checks your eligibility in minutes during your initial call.
