When the cold weather finally arrived in Burnaby, BC this year, my parents turned on their above-ground heating, and of course, it did not come on. We managed to get the pilot light lit, but the furnace would not come on. We first tried the usual AI route (lol) but eventually ended up Googling and finding these guys: Techno Gas Heating & Cooling Services Ltd. Understandably, many companies were busy with their clients and their furnaces that needed attention during this first cold night of the season, but Techno Gas Heating were willing to come late at night (around 8:00pm, I believe) to address our problem. They first diagnosed it as a HONEYWELL VR8300A4508 STANDING PILOT FURNACE GAS VALVE issue, but when replacing the valve didn’t fix it, it became a sensor issue with the heat ex-changer. Long story short: the furnace that circulated the water in the above-ground heating was old, as was the water tank (from 2015). After extensive discussion, and on Mike’s recommendation, we decided to replace both with a modern Navien NCB-240/130H high-efficiency condensing combi boiler (space heating + domestic hot water). By then, my parents were without heat for 5 days, so Techno Gas Heating came in on Thursday and after a day and a half had to entire thing replaced/installed. Competitively, I’m not sure how Techno Gas Heating stacks up in pricing against other HVAC companies (and there are many in a Google search), but I can tell you that their service was professional and they delivered as promised. In the end, I have nothing but praise for their work and would highly recommend their service to anyone in need of a good HVAC company. Great job guys!Posted on Google![]()

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I know if a heat pump is right for my home?
Heat pumps are an excellent choice for homes looking for efficient year‑round comfort. They provide both heating and cooling, work well in BC’s mild climate, and can significantly reduce energy costs compared to traditional systems. During your in‑home assessment, our technicians evaluate your home’s size, insulation, ductwork, and comfort needs to recommend the right system.
What's the difference between a ducted and ductless heat pump?
Ducted heat pumps connect to your home’s existing ductwork and provide whole‑home heating and cooling. Ductless mini‑splits are ideal for homes without ducts or for adding comfort to specific rooms. Both options use inverter technology for quiet, efficient operation. The best choice depends on your home layout and comfort goals.
How long does heat pump installation take?
Most installations take one full day, depending on the system type and your home's layout. Ductless systems are typically faster to install, while ducted systems may require additional adjustments to your existing ductwork. We provide a clear timeline before any work begins.
Are heat pumps efficient in cold weather?
Yes, modern cold-climate heat pumps are designed to perform reliably even in freezing temperatures. Inverter-driven compressors and advanced defrost cycles allow them to maintain strong heating output throughout BC's winter season. We install systems specifically rated for cold-climate performance.
What size heat pump do I need?
The right size depends on your home's square footage, insulation, window quality, and layout. Oversized or undersized systems can lead to poor comfort and higher energy bills. Our technicians perform a detailed heat load calculation to ensure your heat pump is perfectly matched to your home.
Do heat pumps qualify for rebates in BC?
Many heat pumps qualify for rebates through programs like CleanBC and FortisBC, especially cold-climate and high-efficiency models. We help you choose eligible equipment and provide guidance on the rebate application process to maximize your savings.
How long do heat pumps last?
A well maintained heat pump typically lasts 12-15 years, and often longer with regular service. Annual maintenance helps protect your investment, maintain efficiency, and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
What's included in a heat pump installation?
Your installation includes system sizing, equipment placement, refrigerant line installation, electrical connections, thermostat setup, testing in both heating and cooling modes, and a full system walkthrough. We also remove and dispose of old equipment if needed.
Do I need maintenance after installing a heat pump?
Yes, annual maintenance is recommended to keep your heat pump running efficiently and to maintain warranty coverage. Regular tune-ups improve performance, reduce energy usage, and extend the lifespan of your system. You can learn more on our Heat Pump Maintenance page.
