The Fortis BC dual fuel heating system rebate helps offset the cost of installing a new electric heat pump. When you install a qualifying dual fuel system you’ll have access to a reliable and energy-efficient system that keeps your home comfortable year round. The heat pumps are capable of keeping your home warm and comfortable, even on the coldest days — while also providing cooling on hot summer days.
We’re offering this rebate for customers who want a higher-efficiency heating and cooling system that can replace their aging gas furnace, helping to reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions.

$10,000* Dual Fuel Heat Pump Rebate
Upgrade to a Duel Fuel System Heat Pump and receive $10,000 in rebate.

- SEER ≥ 16; HSPF (Region IV) ≥ 10.00 or SEER2 ≥ 15.20; HSPF2 (Region IV) ≥ 8.50

$300 Two-Upgrade Bonus
Install an eligible dual fuel heat pump and make an additional Home Renovation Rebate upgrade and you could qualify for an additional $300 two-upgrade bonus rebate.
Eligible upgrades include:
- air source heat pump
- dual fuel heating system
- electric heat pump water heater
- insulation (must amount to a minimum $500 rebate value per location):
- attic
- exterior wall cavity
- exterior wall sheathing
- basement/crawlspace walls
- other (exposed floor, floor over crawlspace or basement header)
- windows and doors (with a minimum rebate value of $250)

You are eligible for a $150 rebate when you get a Connected Thermostat with your Dual Fuel Heat Pump.

Income-qualified customers* who upgrade their primary electric space heating system, such as baseboards or an electric furnace, to an air source heat pump may be eligible for an additional $5,000 rebate on an eligible model.

Below you can find details about the rebate. To ensure the appliances you choose are eligible for the rebate, check the rebate eligible product list or contact us for assistance.
How to apply
- Purchase an eligible air source heat pump and high-efficiency gas furnace and have them installed by a Technical Safety BC licensed contractor registered with the Home Performance Contractor Network.
- Complete the application form in full and submit it within six months of the invoice date along with the following information:
- your FortisBC gas account number
- your email
- a scanned copy of your paid invoice (see a sample invoice)
- Copy of the heat load calculation
- Copy of the commissioning sheet
- Photos of the two-pipe direct vent system (upon request)
General Eligibility
- The home must have a residential FortisBC natural gas account
- If the registered owner of the property where upgrades were made is not the utility account holder (e.g. landlord/tenant) the owner must have the account holder complete the Utility Account Holder Consent form.
- The home must be a year-round primary residence at least 12 months old and be either a single-family, duplex, triplex, row home, townhouse or mobile home on a permanent foundation. New construction, additions and garage upgrades are not eligible.
- Applications must be submitted within six months of the paid invoice date.
- Rebates cannot exceed the paid cost on the invoice.

Dual fuel system specific requirements
- Invoices must be dated on or after July 1, 2024.
- It must be replacing an existing gas furnace that is at least 10 years old.
- It must be a new central ducted air source heat pump integrated with a new compatible high efficiency gas furnace.
- It must be installed by a Technical Safety BC licenced gas contractor registered with the Home Performance Contractor Network.
- It must be listed as an eligible system on the rebate eligible product list. Qualifying systems must have an AHRI certified reference number that references the outdoor unit and the indoor unit(s) of the heat pump, and the furnace model number.
- It must have the thermostat, outdoor temperature switch-over control or equipment control board set to the following region-specific temperatures for the duration of the product lifetime:
- Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island regions: ≤5°C
- Southern Interior and Northern B.C. regions: ≤2°C
- It must undergo commissioning to ensure the system is installed and operating according to best practice. A copy of the completed commissioning sheet must be made available upon request.
- It must be sized to ensure the heat pump component has the capacity to meet the home’s heat demand at or below the region-specific outdoor set-point (i.e. the application balance point must be lower than the region-specific outdoor thermostat set-point).
- A program-approved heat load calculation is required to properly size the system. Rule of thumb equipment sizing will not be accepted.
- It must be installed in accordance with the Heat Pump Best Practices Installation Guide for Existing Homes and the High-Efficiency Furnace Installation Guide for Existing Houses.
- The connected thermostat must be installed by a licensed contractor at the same time as the new eligible dual fuel system.
- Warranty replacements and insurance claims are not eligible.
